Hose Ferrule (2SN)

A hose ferrule (also known as a socket) is a metal sleeve that slides over the outside of the hose and is crimped together with the hose fitting. During crimping, the ferrule compresses the hose onto the serrated stem of the fitting; the retention and sealing of the hose assembly under pressure depend on the compatibility of the ferrule, fitting and hose. This ferrule is used for 2SN hoses with two steel wire braids to EN 853.

2SN is one of the most common hose types in medium- and high-pressure hydraulic lines: ship deck machinery, steering systems, the moving assemblies of rolling mill and board machines, and the pressure hose assemblies of fire systems. Together with the fitting, a stainless steel ferrule forms a corrosion-resistant end zone, preventing the rusting and weakening at the hose end seen with plated ferrules.

• The ferrule type is specific to the hose type; 1SN, 2SN, 4SP and 4SH hoses require different ferrules.
• Whether the outer cover of the hose must be stripped (skive / no-skive) is determined by the ferrule design.
• Where possible, the hose, fitting and ferrule should be matched as components of the same system.

Installation note: Set the crimp diameter to the value specified for the hose and ferrule, check the crimped assembly by measurement, and verify it for leaks under pressure before commissioning.
