Banjo Fitting and Bolt

A banjo fitting is a connection attached to the port by its ring-shaped body and a hollow (drilled) bolt. The fluid passes through the bore and cross holes of the bolt into the ring, and from there to the hose or tube. Sealing is provided by bonded seals or copper sealing washers placed on both faces of the ring. The ring can be rotated to the required orientation before the bolt is tightened.

It is used in compact units with very little space in front of the port, in pump and motor drain lines, for filter and small valve connections, in the cramped hydraulic areas of defense vehicles and aviation ground support equipment, and in the lubrication lines of board and rolling mill machinery.

• The banjo bolt thread (metric or BSP) must be selected to match the port thread, and its length according to single or double ring use.
• The internal passage of a hollow bolt is narrower than that of a standard fitting; assess the pressure drop in high-flow lines.
• The seal material must be compatible with the fluid and working temperature.

Installation note: Replace the seals at every disassembly and do not overtighten the bolt; a hollow bolt is weaker than a solid one.
