SAE Flange Block

An SAE flange block is a fitting machined from solid that combines one or more SAE flange ports in a single body. Types include elbow blocks, spacer (straight) blocks, reducer blocks, tee blocks and distribution blocks. Each port is machined to SAE geometry with an O-ring groove and four bolt holes; the line is routed compactly without bending tube or using a large number of fittings.

It is used at pump outlets, in power units, at the supply points of press and mill roll cylinders, and in the hydraulic units of ship steering systems and deck machinery. In rolling mills and paper and board mills, remanufacturing failed or no-longer-available blocks from a sample is a frequent requirement.

• Port codes (Code 61 / Code 62), sizes and port orientations must be clearly specified on the technical drawing.
• Block wall thicknesses and passage intersections are evaluated according to the working pressure.
• Additional threaded ports for gauges, measurement or draining can be machined into the same block.

Installation note: Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern and in stages, and support the lines connected to the block with their own brackets; the block must not be used as a hanger carrying the weight of the line. Custom blocks and sizes are scheduled within an average of 10-20 business days after technical approval.
