SAE Code 62 Flange

The SAE Code 62 flange is a mating flange that connects the pipe to the Code 62 port on a pump, cylinder or valve block in high-pressure hydraulic lines. The pipe is joined to the flange by butt welding (weld neck type), socket welding or a threaded connection; the flange is bolted to the port with four bolts, and sealing is provided by the O-ring on the face. In the ISO 6162-2 classification, Code 62 is referred to as the 6000 PSI class.

It is used in heavy press and rolling mill hydraulics, ship steering and lifting systems, high-pressure power units on offshore platforms, and test and production rigs in the defense industry.

• The pipe connection type (weld neck, socket weld, threaded) is determined by the pipe diameter, wall thickness and service conditions.
• Code 62 flanges do not fit Code 61 ports; even with the same nominal size, bolt spacing and flange thickness differ.
• Bolt grade and length must be selected according to the flange thickness and port thread.

Installation note: On welded types, the O-ring must not be fitted during welding; after welding, check the flange face and O-ring groove. Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern and in stages.
