Description
About the product
The BSPT hex plug is used to close unused female ports, test and drain points, or threaded line ends. Its tapered (1:16) male thread per ISO 7-1 wedges into the female port as it is tightened; sealing is achieved by thread engagement and a suitable thread sealant. The hex head allows installation and removal with a standard wrench.
It is used on spare ports of hydraulic power units, on valve blocks, on test outlets of fire pump sets, at drain points in chemical and food processing plants, on service ports of equipment in ship engine rooms, and in rolling mill hydraulics.
- The plug must be fitted into a BSPT (Rc) or suitable Rp threaded port; for BSPP ports sealed with a seal, a parallel-thread plug with a seal should be used.
- In seawater and chemical environments, a stainless steel plug reduces the problem of carbon steel plugs corroding and seizing in the port.
- NPT plugs must be used for NPT ports; the thread angles differ.
Installation note: When tightening a stainless steel plug into a stainless steel port, using a suitable anti-seize compound prevents galling and makes later removal easier.
