Description
About the product
The BSP male x NPT male adapter is a conversion fitting that joins two female ports or fittings with different thread standards. One end has a BSP thread (parallel BSPP or tapered BSPT), the other a tapered NPT thread per ASME B1.20.1. The BSP family has a 55° thread angle and NPT a 60° thread angle; the two families cannot be joined directly.
It is needed wherever imported equipment connects to locally built piping: ship engine rooms where pumps and valves of different origins come together, fire pump skids, instrument and valve connections at chemical and food processing plants, and offshore equipment.
- Whether the BSP end is parallel or tapered is determined by the type of the mating port; on a parallel end, sealing is provided by a seal.
- On the NPT end, sealing is achieved by thread engagement and a thread sealant suitable for the fluid.
- A caliper alone is not enough to verify size; pitch and thread form must be checked with a thread pitch gauge.
Installation note: On stainless steel tapered threads, use a suitable anti-seize compound to counter the risk of galling, and do not overtorque.
