BSPT Hex Nipple

The BSPT hex nipple is a short fitting with tapered (1:16) male threads per ISO 7-1 on both ends. It joins two female connections, for example a valve to a tee or to a port, over the shortest possible distance. Sealing is achieved by the tapered thread wedging into the female thread and by a suitable thread sealant.

It is used in assemblies where valves, check valves and fittings are connected in series: on fire pump skids, in auxiliary lines at chemical and food processing plants, and in service lines in ship engine rooms. It is available with equal sizes and with different sizes on each end (reducing).

• Enough distance must be left between the two female connections for wrench access; very short nipples make installation difficult.
• Tapered threads can be taken apart and reassembled only a limited number of times; at points that are opened frequently, a fitting or union should be used.
• The thread sealant must be suitable for the fluid; on food lines, this suitability should be checked separately.

Installation note: After tightening the first end, hold the nipple body with a wrench while connecting the second end so that the first connection does not loosen.
