About the product

The port side of this ORB (SAE O-ring boss) adapter has a UNF straight thread and an O-ring; the O-ring seals by compressing into the chamfered seat at the mouth of the port. The line side has a JIC male end with a 37° flare seat. Because port sealing does not depend on the thread, it withstands repeated assembly and disassembly, as well as vibration, better than tapered-thread (NPT) connections.

It is widely used on US-standard valve blocks and on pump and motor housings, in the hydraulic systems of mobile defense vehicles, in aviation ground support equipment (GSE) and in offshore power units.

The O-ring material should be selected according to the fluid and temperature; for high temperatures or special fluids, alternatives such as FKM are considered instead of NBR.
If the O-ring seat at the port mouth is scratched or burred, a seal cannot be achieved; the port face should be checked before installation.
For connections that require orientation, adjustable elbow and tee versions with a locknut are preferred.

Installation note: Lightly lubricate the O-ring with system oil before installation, and take care that it is not cut as it passes over the threads.
