About the product
The JIC male x JIC male adapter (JIC 37° union) is a straight fitting with a UNF male thread and a 37° cone seating surface at each end. It is used to join two female swivel nut hose ends, extend a hose line, or connect tube and hose in series. Sealing is achieved by metal-to-metal seating of the adapter's 37° cone against the cone of the mating part; the UNF thread only holds the parts together.
It is common in mobile hydraulic systems built to American standards, in maintenance and test equipment for defense vehicles, in aviation ground support equipment and hydraulic test benches, and in imported power units on offshore platforms.
- 37° JIC and 45° SAE flare connections look similar from the outside and use the same thread in some sizes, but their cone surfaces do not mate; always verify the cone angle.
- In this connection, which has no seal, a scratch or dent on the cone surface leads directly to leakage; store parts with protective caps.
- Thread size and nominal hose or tube size are separate concepts; check the size match against the table when selecting.
Installation note: Keep the cone surfaces clean; after seating the nut by hand, tighten it to the torque specified for the size or by the flats-from-wrench-resistance (FFWR) method. Overtightening crushes the cone and permanently damages the connection.

In a JIC 37° connection, sealing is achieved by two metal cone surfaces seating against each other; there is no seal. In an ORFS (SAE J1453) connection, an O-ring sitting in a groove on the flat face of the male part presses against the flat face of the female part to seal. ORFS is preferred in high-pressure lines subject to vibration because of its sealing reliability. The two systems cannot be connected to each other.
How can I tell whether a connection is JIC 37° or 45° flare?
Check the angle of the cone surface with an angle gauge; the thread size alone is not enough, because in some sizes both systems use the same UNF thread. If you are not sure, send a sample or a clear photo together with the thread size; we will identify the fitting and recommend the correct part.
