JIC 37° Plug & Cap

JIC 37° plugs and caps are used to seal off the end of a JIC line under pressure. The male plug seals a hose or fitting end with a female swivel nut; the female cap seals a male JIC end. As with the connection itself, sealing is achieved by metal-to-metal seating of the 37° cone surfaces.

They are used to cap hose or tube branches taken out of service, temporarily or permanently, on lines under pressure testing on hydraulic test benches, in defense and aviation maintenance workshops, and at shipyards to seal lines against contamination during disassembly.

• Plastic protective caps are intended for shipping and storage only; a metal plug or cap must always be used on a pressurized line.
• The thread size and cone angle of the plug must exactly match those of the end being capped.
• If a stainless steel plug is to be fitted to a carbon steel line in a humid environment, the galvanic effect caused by contact between dissimilar metals should be evaluated.

Installation note: Tighten the plug using the same method as the connection. Do not remove the plug until you are certain the line has been fully depressurized.
